Herkimer County HealthNet working towards improved streets

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - Herkimer County HealthNet held a workshop, Friday, to brainstorm ways to "complete streets."

The goal of the "complete streets" program is to enhance the streets, make them safer, make them attractive, and make them accessible to all abilities.

However, the project isn't just about the actual roadway, but includes sidewalks and crosswalks as well.

"We are mostly looking for communities to adopt complete streets," said Alison Swartz of Herkimer County HealthNet. "To think of various projects they can work on that would create an atmosphere where people in our communities will want to go outside, and take advantage of getting exercise and living a healthier lifestyle."

The workshop was funded by the State Department of Health, and "Creating Healthy Places."
