Herkimer County Legislature votes to sell Country Manor

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - In April, the Herkimer County Legislature voted unanimously to close Country Manor nursing home.

All of the residents are now out and living at Folts Home in Herkimer, while 30 people lost their jobs.

The legislature has now voted to sell Country Manor. Chairman Jim Bono says running the facility was costing taxpayers between $500,000 and $800,000 a year, and the facility needed $1 million in improvements. The county could no longer afford to run the home.

"We have an older building that needs attention," Bono said. "It will need new roofs, new AC, new equipment. The taxpayer can't afford this, and it's done a lot more efficiently in the private sector."

There will be a public viewing of the property from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 19. Sealed bids are due on Sept. 5.
