Herkimer County charges three with welfare fraud

(WKTV) - The Herkimer County Sheriff's Office Welfare Fraud Unit recently arrested three people on welfare fraud charges.

Berniece A. Dow, 41, of Holland Patent, formerly of Herkimer County, is charged with welfare fraud, grand larceny and offering a false instrument. She allegedly failed to report money she was receiving from her ex-husband for rent and child support over a two-year period. She is also accused of fraudulently receiving $4,025 worth of welfare benefits.

She was sent to Herkimer County Jail on $2,500 cash bail.

Tina M. Waller, 45, of Frankfort, is charged with welfare fraud, grand larceny and offering a false instrument for filing. Waller allegedly failed to report household income over a one-year period and fraudulently received $5,123 in welfare benefits. She was released on her own recognizance.

Michelle M. Spellman, 42, of Ilion, is charged with welfare fraud, grand larceny and offering false instrument for filing. Spellman is accused of failing to list all household income and allegedly fraudulently receiving $3,482 worth of welfare benefits. She was released on her own recognizance.
