Herkimer County confirms rabid gray fox in Town of Frankfort

(WKTV) - Herkimer County has confirmed a case of a rabid gray fox in the Town of Frankfort that bit two county residents.

According to the Herkimer County Public Health Department, the fox was sent to Wadsworth Laboratory and confirmed to be infected with the rabies virus.

Residents of Herkimer County should consider all wild animals to be potentially rabid and any bite should be reported to the Herkimer County Public Health Department. It is also advised that pets and domesticated animals be up-to-date with vaccinations to prevent infection. Herkimer County Health will resume rabies clinics in March 2014.
