Herkimer County votes to officially make water proposal to village

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Herkimer County lawmakers will send a proposal to the Village of Herkimer to allow the county to hook into the villages waste water system.

County lawmakers passed the proposal on Wednesday, and will give it to village officials on Thursday.

The proposal is to allow the county to hook a future jail into the village's water system.

The county will offer the village $800,000 over the course of 20 years towards renovating the village's own waste water system. That system needs $1.7 million worth of repairs.

Herkimer Mayor Mark Ainsworth has been on record saying the county needs to make a more serious offer.

The village will have 30 days to respond to the offer.
