Herkimer High School facing further teacher cuts

By WKTV News

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Herkimer high school is looking at even more teacher cuts, as the district continues to try and close a $250,000 budget gap.
The district is preparing to cut seven teachers from full- to part-time.
The cuts not only include non-academic courses, but basic subjects, as well, leaving many within the district unhappy with the current state of education.
"We should be saying what's the best possible outcome for our kids and what's the best program for our kids and that's not the environment we're in right now," said Herkimer Superintendent, Robert Miller. "It's how do I make my ends balance? How do I make my debits and credits balance? Not what's best for kids"
Included in the potential cuts are positions in Physical Education, Home & Careers, Technology, Guidance Counselor, Librarian, Health and Science.

The school board will vote on the cuts in May.
