Herkimer chuch helping out Hurricane Sandy victims

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Central New Yorkers are stepping up and doing what they can to help Hurricane Sandy victims. On Saturday afternoon, a truckload of donations left the New Life Church and Ministry Center in Herkimer and headed for Staten Island.

Downstate, there is a need for clothing, jackets, snow boots and many other items.

Pastor David Hayner says he got the call late Friday night that a truck was swinging through the area and the people of his church came together to donate what they could. He said, "This brings reality to life that there's people hurting out there and there's people here in our town that will stop what they're doing and just reach out anyway they can."

In two weeks, Pastor Hayner says he and a group from his church will load up another truck with donations and head down for several days to help out in the hurricane ravaged area.
