Herkimer man dead after falling through ice on Canadarago Lake

CANADARAGO LAKE, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Herkimer man has died after falling through the ice on Canadarago Lake Tuesday evening.

New York State Police say Leonty Kukharchuk was fishing at the time of the incident.

Dozens of firefighters and first responders from Richfield Springs, Schuyler Lake and Milford Fire Departments responded to the scene after a resident who was nearby called 911.

The 68 year old was taken to Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown and autopsy results state Kukharchuk drowned.
