Herkimer residents head to polls for budget, improvement project

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - Voters are heading to the polls Tuesday to vote for or against the proposed spending plans of local school districts.

In Herkimer, residents have two votes. One is for the annual budget, which aims to close a $250,000 budget gap by cutting five teachers to part time. The other is a capitol improvement project vote, which includes a new roof and technology updates.

"The district decided not to merge a year ago, and as a result of that, we have to look at reconstructing our building and repairing parts of our building to meet 21st-century standards for education," said Superintendent Robert Miller.

Residents can vote on both the school budget and capital improvement plan at the Herkimer Junior/Senior High School. Voting closes at 9 p.m. Tuesday.
