High gasoline prices not leaving any time soon

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - If it seems like the price at the pump has been higher lately, it's not your imagination. And the bad news -- it's not expected to fall any time soon.

The average price for a gallon of gasoline in the Utica-Rome area is $3.73, which is about 13 cents higher than it was a month ago. The prices peaked at an average of $3.62 at the end of 2013.

Traditionally, gasoline prices go down during the winter months before spiking again when suppliers switch to the summer-blend gas. As AAA's Ed Welsh explains, there is a silver lining.

"The bad news -- the prices aren't going down any time soon," Welsh said. "We should stay under $4 a gallon as long as nothing crazy happens out there."

In May 2013, a gallon of gas was $3.93, so according to Welsh, it looks like we're right on track.
