High-mast lighting towers coming down

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - The high-mast lighting towers scattered about the marsh in North Utica are coming down.

The State Department of Transportation says they're all showing signs of fatigue. Crews were out on Thursday working on them.

About a month ago, a state worker noticed one of the masts was leaning. That was taken down and it was determined it was, in fact, in danger of falling.

The DOT says they ended up checking all of the lighting towers after that. The lights were installed in the 1980s.

The DOT is working with the city to develop a new plan to light the corridor.
