High school robotics team receives sponsorship to attend tournament

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - While their high school peers might be taking it easy for spring break, the Second Mouse robotics team is gearing up for a world festival next week.

The team -- made up of students from Holland Patent, New Hartford and New York Mills -- accepted a $5,000 sponsorship from UTC Aerospace Systems in Rome.

The money will cover travel expenses to the tournament in St. Louis. The idea came from one of the company's interns and team mentors.

"There are innumerable scholarships available to the kids to participate in FIRST Robotics Challenge, as well as companies like UTC Aerospace who invest in FIRST Robotics students as well, for internships and for future employment," said Elizabeth Rossi, the team's adviser.

This week, the team will be tweaking their robots in hopes of bringing home a win.
