Holland Patent man killed in early-morning accident

(WKTV) - A Holland Patent man was killed in an early-morning crash Friday in Lee Center, New York State Police said.

Charles J. Melnick Jr., 24, of Holland Patent was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Sulpher Springs Road.

According to officials, a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Stephen C. Burke Jr, 22, was traveling on Sulpher Springs Road north of Belcher. Burke lost control of the Chevrolet and struck a tree. Melnick was a passenger in the truck.

Burke was transported to Rome with minor injuries. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
