Homes for Heroes help members of the military buy and sell homes

By JOLEEN FERRIS

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A new organization is making it more affordable for members of the military to buy and sell homes.

Homes for Heroes began just after September 11th.

"Heroes" across New York State have been taking advantage of the program and now, those in the Utica area will be able to do so.

"I've built a very strong team here in central New York to include lenders, title insurance, the whole gamut, and what they have committed to do is giving a rebate back to our heroes at closing. I myself give 25% of my gross commission back to the hero to help with closing costs, repairs on the new home, whatever they need," says Tonya Souza de Lima, of Homes for Heroes.

The class of "heroes" considered eligible goes beyond military members to include educators, healthcare professionals, first responders and those in the police and fire service. Officials with the program announced its presence in Utica on Veteran's Day at the city's Veteran's Outreach Center.
