11th annual golf tournament raises funds for House of the Good Shepherd
NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Fighting obesity and promoting physical fitness were the themes of the 11th Annual House of the Good Shepherd Golf Tournament.
The event was held Monday, July 26, 2010 at the Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Hartford, and each team of four paid at least $1,500 to participate. House of the Good Shepherd Executive Director William Holicky said the agency has big plans for its Champlin Ave facility, which will be improved upon using these funds. "The money's going to be used for a wellness program," Holicky said. "We're going to focus on the wellness of children and the wellness of our staff." The organization depends on its sponsors to help change the lives of children. Holicky said the organization hopes that a new recreational trail on the campus will help to reduce the percentage of obese residents. "We hope to end up with a one-mile long trail for running, walking, biking, cross-country skiing," he said. "All those activities which will give our kids and our staff an area to really work on their wellness." The House of the Good Shepherd cares for more than 100 residents. |
