Husband heads to prison for stabbing wife in head and torso

By PAT BAILEY

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - William Woods was sentenced to 19 1/2 years in prison Thursday, for stabbing his wife in the head and torso.

Woods was originally charged with attempted murder, however he accepted a plea deal that knocked the charge down to assault in the first degree. On top of the prison sentence, Woods will undergo five years post release supervision, and have a 25 year order of protection against him.

Woods will be 70 when he is released from prison.

Wood's wife, the victim, Kerry Wedemeyer-Woods spoke at sentencing. Wedemeyer-Woods told the defendant she hopes God can forgive him because she may never be able to.

"Closure is what is going through my head," she said. "It has been over a year and I can finally put this to rest, put it behind me. That monster got what he deserves."
