If running Boilermaker, be sure to drink lots of water

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - If you are an athlete in this weekend's Boilermaker Road Race, you should already be drinking lots of water.

In fact, experts say you should be drinking at least eight glasses, and even more if you are consuming coffee or alcohol.

They also say that a few days before the big race is not the time to alter your lifestyle habits.

"If you are used to having a fish fry the night before a run, do it. If you are used to drinking coffee in the morning and having breakfast, go ahead and do it. But yeah, don't change your system because you are running the Boilermaker," said Jim Stasaitis, Boilermaker Race Director.

Boilermaker officials want you to know that if you feel sick during the race, you should stop and seek help immediately at one of the 25 medical stations throughout the course.
