Ilion Annunciation Catholic Church honors local saints

ILION, N.Y. (WKTV) - Mother Marianne Cope, who grew up in West Utica, and Kateri Tekakwitha, who grew up in the Mohawk Valley, have both been canonized as saints. The Roman Catholic Annunciation Church in Ilion held a special mass on Sunday to honor them.

Father Anthony Barrat says there were some special prayers and readings in honor of the two local saints. The service was a way for people to feel closer to the ceremony that was held in Vatican City.

Father Barret says there are plans to hang the images of the saints used during the service permanently inside the church.
