Ilion man arrested after disturbance in Emergency Room

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. - An Ilion man has been charged after police say he became verbally abusive with hospital staff and made a lewd act while at St. Luke's Hospital.

On Monday afternoon around 1 p.m., police said that Steven Morris, 49, of Ilion, was in St. Luke's Hospital Emergency Room on Champlain Ave when he became verbally abusive towards several of the hospital employees, as well as a man visiting an injured family member in the emergency room.

Police said Morris used obscene language towards staff and refused to stop when asked to do so by emergency room staff and hospital security officers, causing a brief disturbance within the emergency room.

While doing this, Morris was additionally seen by a staff member and other hospital visitors to partially disrobe himself and make a lewd act which offended others present at the time. New Hartford Police were contacted and Morris was arrested moments later as he began to leave the emergency room.

Morris was taken to the New Hartford Police Department and charged with one count of disorderly conduct - a violation, and one count of public lewdness - which is a misdemeanor.

Morris was then arraigned in The Town of New Hartford Court and sent to the Oneida County Jail on $500 bail.

Morris will return to court to answer these charges at a later date.
