Ilion woman accused of violating Leandra's Law

(WKTV) - An Ilion woman is accused of violating Leandra's Law after she was allegedly driving while intoxicated while her 13-year-old son was in the car, New Hartford Police say.

Jennifer M. Young, 46, is charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated under Leandra's Law, endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful possession of marijuana and traffic and open container charges.

According to officials, New Hartford police stopped a car on State Route 5 near Seneca Mobile Manor around 9 p.m. Thursday. The officer was on patrol when he saw a 2003 Saturn sedan nearly strike a snow bank. After stopping the car, police discovered a 13-year-old boy was a backseat passenger. Young was also found to be in possession of marijuana and open alcohol containers, authorities said.

She was sent to Oneida County Jail on a $5,000 cash bail.
