Investigation into Sauquoit Creek drowning of young girl continues

By ANDREW DONOVAN

WASHINGTON MILLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - New Hartford Police are continuing their investigation of the drowning death of a two-year-old girl.

Law enforcement officials say Ashi Kah, 23-months-old, drowned Saturday evening in the Sauquoit Creek in the Washington Mills Athletic Park.

She reportedly wandered away from her parents, was swept away by the water and was taken downstream about 1,000 feet.

Water levels were higher than normal, according to meteorologists.

Kah's body was pulled from the water by a relative, police say, and she was given emergency medical attention but did not survive. She was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

The Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s office is also involved in the investigation.

The Town of New Hartford closed the Washington Mills Athletic Park, according to AYSO soccer officials, causing the cancellations of soccer games scheduled for Sunday.
