Investigators: Inmate tried to contract ex-girlfriend's murder from behind bars

OTSEGO COUNTY, N.Y. (WKTV) - An inmate at the Otsego County Correctional Facility is now facing new charges after investigators say he was trying to contract his ex-girlfriend's murder from jail.

According to the Otsego County Sheriff's Office, Jerry Daniel Grays, 37, formerly of Oneonta and Unadilla, was arrested following an investigation into a "Murder for Hire" plot.

Grays, an inmate at the Otsego County Correctional Facility, was arraigned in Otsego Town Court on November 9 following his arrest.

At the time of his arrest, Grays was serving a sentence for second-degree criminal contempt. Sheriff's Office Investigators learned of the plot which involved Grays, over a three-week period, communicating with others in an attempt to contract his ex-girlfriends murder.

Grays was charged with second-degree conspiracy and first-degree criminal contempt.

Grays was remanded back to the Otsego County Correctional facility with an additional $250,000 bail and is due to reappear in Town Court Wednesday, November 17.

Otsego County Sheriff's Investigators were assisted by the Warren County Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Unit and the case is still ongoing.
