JFK Civic Center in Rome to host 37th Annual Rome Home Show

By WKTV News

ROME, N.Y. - Rome Mayor Joseph R. Fusco, Jr. joined with Rome Chamber leadership to announce that John F. Kennedy Civic Center and Arena will be the new location for the 37th Annual Rome Home Show, Saturday and Sunday, April 28th and 29th.

“Kennedy Arena has recently undergone a $3.5 million renovation, with a floor area that measures 85' x 200', plenty of outdoor space and free parking,” said Mayor Fusco, “and the City of Rome is pleased to welcome the Chamber’s biggest event of the year to the Arena. It is a great opportunity to showcase our facility and encourage other organizations to ‘Think Rome First’ to hold events here during hockey’s off-season, April 1 thru September 30 every year. The Rome Home Show will demonstrate to visitors the many possibilities for other inside shows including car, gun, antique, home & garden and watercraft, too.”

In Spring 2011, eleven armories were closed across New York State, including the Rome Armory on Black River Boulevard, where, with few exceptions, the Rome Chamber’s Home Show has been held almost every year since 1976. Kennedy Arena is the Rome Home Show’s new location, at 500 West Embargo Street, on the site of the old Thron’s Pond in the heart of a neighborhood in West Rome.

“The Rome Chamber of Commerce looks forward to welcoming Central New Yorkers to the neighborhood,” said Debbie Adamo, Chairman of the Rome Chamber Board of Directors. “Mother Nature gave us a mild winter, giving ample time and early inspiration for planning home improvement, garden, and leisure projects. This year’s show is going to be bigger, brighter, and better than ever, and the exhibit area is almost twice the size of previous years, 17,000 square feet. We’re building on last year’s theme, Self-sufficiency for Home and Garden, to emphasize affordable and satisfying seasonal solutions. Whether you’re a do-it-yourselfer, or looking for products and services from reliable professionals, or simply looking for a place for some family fun, we invite you to visit us at the Rome Home Show, in this, the Rome Chamber’s Centennial Year of celebration!”

Admission to the Rome Home Show will again be FREE this year, thanks to the generosity of
sponsors: AmeriCU Credit Union, Carbone Auto Group, First Source Federal Credit Union, and Joe Tahan’s Furniture. In addition, support for not-for-profit organizations to exhibit at the show comes from NBT Bank, Integrys Energy Systems, Beacon Federal, Brush-On by Ed, Townsquare Media, Ridge Street Depot, The Printed Word, Professional Technologies, and some Rome Chamber board members.

More than 90 vendors, indoors and out, will be available to talk about their products and service between 10am-6pm on Saturday, April 28 and 10am-4pm on Sunday, April 29.
