Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation donates $3,500 to St. Elizabeth Medical Center

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Syracuse University Basketball Coach Jim Boeheim and his wife, Juli, were in Utica on Monday - not to talk about basketball, but rather to give out money.

The Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation donated $3,500 to the St. Elizabeth Medical Center Foundation Monday afternoon, money that will go towards the purchase of four sleeper chairs.

Those chairs will provide in-room accommodations for family members of critically-ill patients.

Juli Boeheim says St. Elizabeth Medical Center made the request, and the Foundation saw the need.

"It seems like a great need, a great cause, absolutely," Juli Boeheim said. "I know parents need to get their sleep when their kids are in here. You don't want to be in here in the first place with a child, especially. But if you have a place to stay that's comfy like that, why not? We were happy to do it. The chairs look great. I've slept on one myself, and they are great to have."

The Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation is in its first year. So far they have raised more than $1 million and given out 26 grants.
