Kids' Run a mainstay of Boilermaker weekend in its 25th year

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Hundreds of future Boilermaker 15k runners were at the MVCC campus to participate in the 2014 Kids' Run, Saturday.
The event was broken into four categories: special needs, 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, 3/4 mile, and 1 mile races.
Participation in the event has been steadily growing over the last few years, resulting in the need for four separate heats for the 1/4 mile division, and two heats for the 1/2 mile division.
The Kids' Run is now in it's 25th year, and is meant to serve as a fun, light-hearted event that exposes kids to the sport of running, while getting them into the Boilermaker spirit.
"It's just fun to see their faces when they cross the finish line," said Dennis Brenon, Kids' Run Coordinator. "I've seen a lot of these kids grow up over the years and some are now doing the 5k, and its exciting it's a stepping stone for a lot of them and they take a lot of pride in it.
"I'm glad to be a part of it."
