Kids encouraged to make a mess during "messy play" at Utica Public Library

By HILARY LANE

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - While many kids are often asked to clean up after themselves, many local kids were actually encouraged to make a mess while at the Utica Public Library on Wednesday.

The library hosted what is known as the "messy play" event on Wednesday, with children of all ages rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands dirty.

They experimented with shaving cream, a mixture of corn starch and water, and even paint.

"We have it at the library to get them to have fun at the library, have good memories at the library, and after wards they will sit in the Children's Room and look up books that have ideas on how to do the messy play as well," said Amanda Stewart, Early Literacy Coordinator for the Utica Public Library.

The event was free and open to the public and the kids summer program runs through the end of the week.
