Kids learn about Dr. King's effect on our country and culture at "I Have a Dream Workshop"

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - A day off from school doesn't mean a day off from learning, especially at one center in New Hartford.

The children at the new Evolve Discovery Center spent the day learning about Dr Martin Luther King Jr and what he stood for. The center, which just opened this month on Genesee Street, holds programs to promote children's overall development and personal success.

On Monday, the center's founder, Jennifer Abend Ward, held what she called the "I Have a Dream Workshop."

"I wanted to give the kids an opportunity to really give some time to look at this incredible man and how he affected our country and what he did for us," Abend Ward said.

There were many activities planned for the kids on Monday, including taking a close look at Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech and the opportunity for the kids to write their own speeches on how they would like to change the world themselves.
