Lands End catalog features some familiar Adirondack locations

By By MIKE LaFAVE

INLET, N.Y. (WKTV) - If you pick up the Fall copy of the Lands End catalog, you'll see some familiar sights.

Photography crews, models, and more from the clothing company were in the Adirondacks for almost the entire month of July. They spent time and took photos of shops in Inlet, and other area hot spots, like Big Moose, and Raquette Lake.

One local hotel owner believes the magazine's presence will bring more tourists to the area.

"It's a really prestigious company," said Woods Inn owner Joedda McClain. "People look at Lands End with great credibility...very upscale. I think it can only help those people who are considering vacationing in the Adirondacks or making day trips."

Lands End staffers stayed at McClain's establishment in Inlet, with crews of up to 15 people at a time.

The Tourism Publicity Director for the Town of Webb say companies like Lands End coming to the Adirondacks has a two-fold benefit - free advertising, and economic stimulus.

"Those companies have a great impact," Publicity Director Michael Farmer said. "They have an impact on the businesses here. They come, they stay, they eat. And then they display everything we want to show to people, what we have to offer, and the reason people live here, and the reason that people come here."

Farmer says a production company in the Adirondacks is actively marketing the area to agents to be in movies, shows and commercials.
