HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Law enforcement from across Herkimer County gathered Tuesday at Herkimer County Community College for the annual STOP-DWI breakfast.

Officials say that roughly 300 people are arrested for DWI across the county every year and this year, officials made 278 arrests in Herkimer County. Despite their efforts to curb drinking and driving, authorities say it remains a problem that affects everyone too often.

"When someone is involved in a drinking and driving accident, so many other people are affected," said Mike Edwards of the STOP-DWI Program. "It puts so many lives on the line."

Enforcement agencies from across the county were honored for their work, including the Ryan Parks Memorial Award. Parks was an Ilion Police Officer killed off duty by a drunk driver.
