(WKTV) - The 25th class of Leadership Mohawk Valley had an orientation Thursday, as a new batch of leaders are born.
A Thursday-night barbecue capped off the first day of orientation on the campus of SUNYIT.
The students come from all walks of life. Many of them are new to their respective careers and many have plenty of experience. What they have in common -- they want to learn about where they live and work.
"Some of the people here today don't know yet what they've gotten themselves into," said Ann Rushlo of Leadership Mohawk Valley. "They sort of have a concept, but they're kind of getting to know more. So, being able to interact with alumni so quickly after orientation gives them an opportunity to learn the ropes from people who have already been through the process."
Participants will be meeting once a month for the next 10 months. They will also conduct a class project where they help a local organization or cause in the area.
