HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Nine year old Zachary Slade played a complex piano piece in front of Herkimer County legislators Wednesday night. When he finished Sonate G Major by Joseph Haydn he got a standing ovation by legislators and they proclaimed Thursday Zachary Slade day.

Zachary began playing piano when he was just four years old. He's now what some call a "prodigy." With his piano skills far beyond his years he's competed in many local competitions, even one last year in Poland.

He says he especially likes playing in benefit concerts for charities.

"I just like playing, I like the music and music usually makes other people happy," said Zachary after performing Wednesday night.

In addition to the Herkimer County Legislature proclaiming Thursday Zachary Slade day in the county, the 9 year old also received a Certificate of Recognition signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo honoring his talents.
