Lewis Co. Sheriff's Department: Son killed by father was unarmed

LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Lewis County Sheriff's Department held a news conference Tuesday afternoon after they say a father shot and killed his son.

At the news conference, authorities did say the son was unarmed.

It's unclear who the gun belonged to.

It happened Monday night at 9520 Stillwater Road in the Town of Watson.

According to the Lewis County Sheriff's Department, 56-year-old Lyle Davoy, Sr. and his son, 29-year-old Lyle Davoy, Jr., got into a physical altercation a little before 8 pm.

While Davoy, Jr., was outside the residence, deputies say Davoy, Sr. shot him in the upper torso area with a 20 gauge shotgun.

Davoy, Jr., died from the wound at the scene.

Davoy, Sr., is charged with Murder, 2nd degree. He's being held at the Lewis County Jail without bail.

Sheriff's deputies were assisted on the scene by the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Unit, the Lewis County District Attorney's Office, and Lewis County Search and Rescue.
