TOWN OF LEWIS, N.Y.(WKTV) - The Lewis County Sheriff's Department responded to a motorcycle accident Sunday night.

Authorities say 55-year-old Robert Bowers of West Leyden failed to negotiate a turn on Osceola Road.

They say he traveled almost 400 feet off the blacktop, struck a tree, and was thrown from his motorcycle.

He was found by a passerby with several broken bones.

He was rushed to St. Elizabeth Medical Center, then airlifted to Syracuse.

The investigation continues.
