Little Falls Sergeant Ronald Petrie named new Frankfort Village Police Chief

FRANKFORT, NY (WKTV) - The Village of Frankfort selected a new Chief of Police Thursday night.

Ronald Petrie will begin his duties as Police Chief Friday. Petrie has been a Sergeant with the Little Falls Police Department. He had spent his entire law enforcement career with the Little Falls Police department, working his way up the ranks from Patrolman to Sergeant before now moving on to become the Police Chief for the Village of Frankfort.

Petrie has been hired on a provisional basis until Spring of 2011 when he will take the Civil Service exam.

Frankfort Public Safety Commissioner Mark Harris says Petrie brings a lot of skills to the table, even at a young age.

"He'll be a young chief, he comes very respected through the community," Harris said. "We've heard nothing but good things about him. He comes with a wealth of experience, extensive background in criminal knowledge and just things that he's been involved in are more than any other candidate we had. We a lot of great candidates but he was one that really rose to the occasion."

Former Village of Frankfort Police Chief Steve Conley retired in July.

Conley was surrounded by legal trouble and rumors. Legal action has been brought against him by Herkimer County Coroner Dan Enea, Frankfort Police Officer Samuel Ameduri and Village resident Harold Griffin.

Petrie interviewed for the Village of Frankfort Police Chief job back in 2006 but decided to stay with the Little Falls Police Department.
