Local Media Team up with United Way for Valley Support Fund

By Don Shipman

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - WKTV NEWSChannel 2, along with several other media outlets have teamed up with the United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area to encourage you to donate to the Valley Support Fund.  The United Way called upon the media to participate in their public service announcement.  That PSA will be airing through this weekend.

The money raised is being put into a fund and made available to those who need support services as a result of the shooting spree in Mohawk and Herkimer.  Dozens of local organizations are apart of this effort too, similar to how local media came together to keep the public informed during rampage.

"They really wanted to keep the community informed and keep the community safe," said Adam Lawless of the United Way. "We wanted to mimic that this week by showing the community coming together once again.  And those same media partners coming together and breaking down those boundaries saying we support our community through these tough times... we're standing united."

Donations can be made to the Valley Support Fund. Text "UNITED" to 52000. $10 will be added to your phone bill and directly donated to the fund. Standard messaging rates may apply. Checks made payable to United Way c/o Valley Support Fund can be mailed to our Herkimer office at 401 East German Street, Herkimer, 13350. Contribute via credit card by contacting United Way at (315) 733-4691.

Donations to the Valley Support Fund will be accepted now through April 21. For more information about the Valley Support Fund or to learn about services available to those affected by the tragedy in the Valley call (315) 733-4691 or visit
