Local Police, Fire Agencies collecting toys for Newtown, Connecticut

More than a dozen local agencies are teaming up to send what they can to the victims in Newtown, Connecticut.

The Whitestown Police Benevolent Association is spearheading the effort, asking for unwrapped toys or monetary donations that they will bring down to Newtown at the end of the week.

The Sandy Hook Fire Department and the Newtown Police Department are expecting the donations, just one way you can reach out.

"It spurred a lot of conversation between members of the Whitestown PBA," said Whitestown Police Officer Frank McCully. "Police officers are generally people that have the urge to help and Saturday morning we put our heads together and came up with the idea to have a toy drive/fund drive."

The main collection site is the Whitestown Police Department on Clark Mills Road, but if you can't make it there, you can drop toys off at the Oriskany, Whitesboro, New York MIlls, Yorkville, New Hartford or Utica Police Departments or the New Hartford, Whitesboro, or Yorkville Fire Departments.

If you are making a monetary donation, you can make the checks out to the "Sandy Hook School Support Fund."

Thursday night, December 20 is the deadline to donate.
