Local Red Cross officials fielding many calls regarding Japan

MOHAWK VALLEY, N.Y. (WKTV) - Many members of the American Red Cross are now in Japan helping the Japanese Red Cross with whatever they may need, and the needs are plenty.

Local Red Cross officials say calls have been coming in from volunteers and non-volunteer alike asking what they can do to help.

Rome Chapter spokesperson Edith Buffalohead says as things are still unfolding in Japan, the best thing to do for area folks who want to help is to donate any amount of money you can afford to help with relief efforts, even if it's just ten dollars.

If you want to help the victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami, you can text the American Red Cross at "90999" to make a $10 donation.

You can also donate through the American Red Cross website, just visit www.redcross.org.
