Local Regional Economic Development Council presents its plan

MARCY, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Lieutenant Governor stopped by SUNYIT in Marcy on Wednesday to check in on the local Regional Economic Development Council.

The Mohawk Valley is one of ten regions competing for a $1 billion in state grants and tax breaks.

Each region must submit a five year strategic plan that would promise sustainable economic growth and the top four regions will get $40 million each.

The Mohawk Valley's plan includes 13 priority projects that involve upgrading the Marcy nanocenter site, improving waterfront areas and forming partnerships with local colleges and universities to create jobs.

The Lieutenant Governor says the Mohawk Valley Region really shined during this competition.

"I've been so impressed with this group," Duffy said. "They have great personalities, they make it fun, but they work hard and I was very impressed with their plan that was unveiled today."

The money will be awarded in December by a panel of impartial judges.
