Local attorney announces candidacy for family court judge

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - A New Hartford attorney has announced her candidacy for family court judge in Oneida County.

Julia Hurlbut Brouillette has thrown her hat into the ring for the seat, which was recently created. She has the endorsement of the Oneida County Republican Committee.

Eleven counties outside of New York City received an additional judicial position in an attempt to alleviate an overburdening case load.

The calendar for nominating petitions has been adjusted because of the late position. Petitions will begin to circulate Friday and are due July 24.

Brouillette is a native of Rome. She earned a bachelor's degree from Oberlin College and her law degree from the University of Houston Law School. She is currently a court attorney referee in the New York State Unified Court System. She previously worked as an assistant district attorney in Harris County, Texas.
