Local attorney named subdeacon of Maronite Church

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - It was a big day Saturday at the St. Louis Gonzaga Catholic Church in Utica as local attorney Peter Hobaica was ordained as a subdeacon.

In the Maronite Diocese, which is centered in Brooklyn, there are 19 deacons and subdeacons. They work together to care for those in their immediate area.

Church leaders say it expands the ministry of the church. Core Bishop John D. Faris said, "In the Maronite Church, the Subdeacon assists at the alter, distributes Communion to the sick and homebound and generally helps pastoral care of our faithful."

Peter Hobaica will join Deacon Paul Salamy to lead the St. Louis Gonzaga Church in Utica.
