HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - A local soccer star died, Saturday, after collapsing in his apartment.
Peter McAvoy, of Dundee, Scotland, senior captain of the Herkimer College men's soccer team, passed away after being found unresponsive in his Reservoir Run apartment.
According to officials, Campus Security responded to a call after McAvoy collapsed in his apartment and attempted to revive him unsuccessfully. He was then transported to Little Falls Hospital, where after further life saving attempts failed, he was pronounced dead.
Following his death, Pepe Aragon, Head Coach of the men's soccer team spoke to NEWSChannel 2 and expressed his sadness over his player's passing.
"Pete was an absolute class act of a person, not only on the field but off the field as well," said Aragon. "It's amazing to see how many lives he touched when you look on Facebook and social media, when you see the impact he has made on so many different people not only in his own country of Scotland but here in the United States.
"I can tell you as the college goes, it's an entire college that is heart broken right now. He was that kind of a person."
Cause of death currently unknown, and more information will be provided when it becomes available.
