Local community walks in honor of Holland Patent teen killed by car

HOLLAND PATENT, N.Y. (WKTV) - The first ever Nush Walk was held, Saturday, at Holland Patent High School, in honor of a teen who was killed in a motor vehicle accident on his way to school there last winter.

Anusha "Nush" Chimtin Yagey, was 16 when he was killed by a car on his way to the High School on February 12, 2013.

Today, Yagey was honored by his community with hundreds of people coming out to support his family, and raise money for the memorial scholarship fund in his name.

Participants raised pledges for the 5k walk in order to benefit the Anusha Yagey Memorial Scholarship Fund, that will go to a Holland Patent senior.

Some of the proceeds will be donated to the Holland Patent sports programs, in honor of Nush's standout status as a lacrosse and soccer player for the school.

Anusha's family hopes to make this an annual event, where future funds raised will be put towards developing grief counseling programs for high school students nationwide.
