Local construction company collecting food for soup kitchen at St. Patrick's Day Parade

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - If you are planning to attend the St. Patrick's Day parade in Utica on Saturday morning, make sure you do two things - wear something green, and bring a non-perishable food item.

A local construction company is teaming up with the Mother Marianne Soup Kitchen in West Utica to collect food and donations during the parade.

You won't be able to miss it. You just need to look for the Adorino Construction trucks and wheelbarrows. Organizers hope to help out even more people this year.

"Last year, we raised a little over $800 and $700 pounds worth of food," said Bernie Adorino, President of Adorino Construction. "This year we're trying to double that. So if everybody, each family, brought one can of food, it would go a long way to help feed the homeless hungry people right here in our own area."

They will accept non-perishable items and cash donations.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. and travels north on Genesee Street, starting at Oneida Square.
