Local cooling centers open to the public during heat wave
As the heat wave continues here in Central New York, we want to make you aware of local cooling stations in the area. In Oneida County, the Red Cross at 1415 Genesee Street in Utica is open and air conditioned from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. You can also get bottled water there. In Herkimer County, the Red Cross is partnering with the Frank J. Basloe library. The Red Cross is providing bottled water. The library is providing the air conditioning, books and activities. Also, most senior centers have an open door policy for members and non-members alike in extreme heat. The Parkway Senior Center keeps its doors open until 9 p.m.
