Local father still grieving on 10th anniversary of the War in Afghanistan

LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - Vincent Thompson says the hurt is still there today, just as it was on June 25, 2010, when he learned that his 19 year old son Blair was killed in Afghanistan.

U.S. Army Specialist Blair Thompson of Rome was killed when his unit was attacked by rocket-propelled grenades. Vincent Thompson says he is still waiting for the day when the pain goes away, even just a little.

"I can honestly tell you that there's not a minute or a second that goes by every day that i don't think about him."

On this, the 10th anniversary of the beginning of the War in Afghanistan, Vincent Thompson, who now lives in Herkimer County, says he is proud of his son for being part of the mission that ultimately resulted in the finding of Osama Bin Laden, the man responsible for killing so many Americans.

Thompson says now that Bin Laden has been found, he would like to see all U.S. troops pulled from Afghanistan, not wait until the planned withdrawal by the end of 2014.

He hopes that no other American families have to go through what his, and so many others have had to go through during the War in Afghanistan.

22 year old U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Daniel Geary of Rome was also killed during the War in Afghanistan, as was 22 year old U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Blaise Oleski of Holland Patent.

Geary was killed on March 20th, 2009.

Oleski as killed on April 8th, 2009.
