Local golf tournament tees off for a good cause

ORISKANY FALLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - 130 golfers hit the links at the Barker Brook Golf Course for the Tony's Pizza Open, Sunday, with a very special twist.

This year, Tony's Pizza teamed up with the J-Rob Foundation in order to support the Foundation's commitment to providing adaptive sporting equipment to physically disabled children.

Jason Robinson, 10, the namesake for the J-Rob Foundation, completed the Boilermaker this summer in his racing wheelchair, given to him, as a gift, by his school.

Jason raced for NewsChannel2's Go the Distance team, and after feeling the support from his peers and community, has made it his mission to help others that are physically handicapped.

But a day that started off as a happy day for a great cause turned into a special day in a different way as well.

During the tournament, Brian Robins, a local soldier who had been away at training for the past 8 months, surprised his daughter Savannah on the course with a warm embrace.

With all of the events surrounding the tournament, it became a day filled with happiness for members of the Central New York community.
