By WKTV News

(WKTV) - February is upon us, and that means the official start to Black History Month.

Fifty locals gathered at MVCC, Saturday, in order to celebrate the first day at an event hosted by the Utica/Oneida County branch of the NAACP.

The event featured multiple guest speakers, presentations about monumental historical moments in black history, and musical performances as well.

The annual event has been kicking off the month of February for several years.

"Black history is an important part of American history so the program is for everyone," said Program Committee Chairman, Craig Grant. "It's important for all Americans to know about the significant contributions that African Americans have made to America, and to the World."

The program was held from 1 p.m. Until 3 p.m.
