Local performer to be featured on America's Got Talent
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - You may have seen him around, whether it'd be at Boilermaker committee events, private parties, or even right here on NEWSChannel 2.
Well on Sunday night, you will have the chance to see him perform on a national stage as local Mentalist Robert Channing will be featured right here on NBC's hit show, America's Got Talent as a contestant hoping to make it through the audition round.
Channing will perform his well-known "speed painting" act, where he paints celebrities or other historical figures on a 5x6' black canvas in mere minutes. If you recall, he performed this very act right here on the set of NEWSChannel 2, wowing our own Don Shipman with a picture of Albert Einstein during a Newstalk segment.
Channing is from New Hartford, and is hoping that his record 90-second painting was enough to impress judges Howie Mendel, Howard Stern, Mel B and Heidi Klum and put him through to the next stage.
The actual segment was taped in the Theater at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan on April 3rd, but will air during an episode of AGT Sunday night at 9 p.m.
He is hoping to become the next local star to become a national sensation on the hit show, after Leon & Romy made waves on the show with their illusionist acts last season.
Be sure to tune in as more local talent makes history on a national stage. From all of us here at NEWSChannel 2, Good luck Robert, we are rooting for you!
