Local priest eagerly awaits papal decision, predicts for the end of the week

By LEXIE O'CONNOR

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The papal conclave has a lot of people glued to their TVs, including some local priests. Father Mark Kaminiski of St. Anthony's Catholic Church is anxiously awaiting to see who the new pope will be.

"I mean it happens once in a while only so it's a historic moment for the church historic moment for all the Catholics around the world," said Father Kaminski.

He says in between masses he stays updated on his phone, computer, and TV when time allows, curious as to who will next lead the Catholic Church.

"You know this is going to be the leader, who is going to lead the church into what's great and provide for that leadership for both spiritual but also he's the head of faith so he's always looked at as the official representative," said Father Kaminski.

He predicts the new pope will be chosen within the next 2 to 4 days, as has been in recent conclaves and that the cardinals probably have a particular profile or traits for the next pope already in mind.

"You have to stay with the signs of times moving forward only because the circumstances of the modern person change and if we don't catch up with where the world is going now, our message god forbid becomes irrelevant," said Father Kaminski.

He says he has no predictions of who the new pope will be, and that he'll be waiting, watching and praying until the white smoke signaling a decision is seen.
