Local priest sentenced for stealing from church

NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - A local priest who admitted to stealing more than $87,000 from his New York Mills church was sentenced in Oneida County Court on Wednesday, but is already out of jail.

Father Valentine Krul was sentenced to six months in jail, five years probation and ordered to pay nearly $35,000, which is the balance of what he owed.

Krul already served his jail time, but his sentencing was adjourned a few times because they were waiting for his Florida condo to sell so the money could be put toward restitution.

The bishop will make the determination on whether Krul can remain a priest.
